Hugo Spritz
Originating from the South Tyrol region of Northern Italy, this refreshing aperitif is a delightful floral alternative to the bolder Aperol Spritz. With its delicate blend of elderflower, fresh mint, and bubbly Prosecco, it is the ultimate light and breezy summer cocktail.
Prep Time: 5 mins Total Time: 5 mins Servings: 1
Ingredients
- 1 fluid ounce elderflower syrup (such as Monin or D’arbo) OR St-Germain liqueur
- 4 fluid ounces Prosecco, chilled
- 1 fluid ounce club soda or sparkling water
- 1 sprig fresh mint (about 6-8 leaves)
- 1 lime wedge or wheel
- 1 cup ice cubes
Directions
- Place the mint leaves in a large wine glass or tumbler. Gently bruise the leaves with a muddler or the back of a spoon to release their oils (do not shred them).
- Fill the glass generously with ice cubes.
- Pour the elderflower syrup (or liqueur) over the ice.
- Top with the chilled Prosecco and a splash of club soda.
- Stir gently to combine the ingredients without losing too much carbonation.
- Garnish with the lime wedge and an extra sprig of mint, if desired, and serve immediately.
Optional Tips / Variations
- The “Hugo Royale”: Omit the club soda and replace it with more Prosecco or Champagne for a stronger, bubblier drink.
- Citrus Swap: While lime is traditional, lemon slices can be used for a slightly sharper, brighter flavor profile.
- Virgin Hugo: For a non-alcoholic mocktail, skip the Prosecco and use a non-alcoholic sparkling wine or simply increase the soda water and use elderflower cordial syrup.
